3 Hours to the next milestone

I used to plan projects in days or weeks. Now I plan in 3-hour chunks, and it's changed everything about how I work.
Why 3 Hours?
- Long enough to make meaningful progress
- Short enough to maintain focus
- Tangible enough to feel accomplishment
The Method
Each morning, I ask: "What can I complete in the next 3 hours?"
The key word is complete. Not "work on" – complete. This forces me to:
- Break large tasks into smaller pieces
- Define clear success criteria
- Resist scope creep
Example
Instead of "Work on authentication feature" (vague, endless):
- Hour 1-3: Implement login form with validation ✓
- Hour 4-6: Add password reset flow ✓
- Hour 7-9: Write tests and documentation ✓
The Compound Effect
Three 3-hour blocks per day = 9 hours of focused work. But more importantly, it's 3 completed milestones. That momentum compounds.
Conclusion
Stop measuring progress in hours worked. Start measuring in milestones completed. Your productivity (and sanity) will thank you.
